The unceasing demand of humankind for a more comfortable lifestyle has sometimes had a tremendously negative effect on the global environment. Environmental issues have come to be recognized worldwide as extremely important, possibly even affecting the sustainability of human life itself. In response to the global challenge this represents, a cooperative response that goes beyond existing frameworks is required. Specifically, every nation, society, and company must collaborate actively in areas such as improving energy efficiency, fighting global warming, reducing consumption of fossil fuels, green energy generation, using fewer resources, preventing pollution, and green procurement.
What can a semiconductor company do to help preserve the global environment? We have given this question serious consideration at Renesas, proposing and putting into practice the three initiatives described below as the basis for the eco-friendly policy of the Renesas Group as a whole. The Eco-Products Initiative consists of efforts to provide our customers with semiconductor products and solutions that are as environmentally friendly as possible. The Eco-Factories Initiative involves efforts to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases during the production and distribution of our products, to reduce the use of chemicals in manufacturing, and to improve the energy efficiency of our factories. Finally, the Eco-Communication Initiative aims to disseminate in a timely manner information on the achievements of our eco-products initiative and eco-factories initiative as well as on the chemical substances contained in our products, including efforts to phase out lead.
As a manufacturer of semiconductor products, Renesas places a particular focus on the eco-products initiative, and we are making every effort to implement eco-friendly policies around the themes described below.

Toward Green Society, Green Systems, and Green Devices.
The Renesas Group hereby has established this Eco-Friendly Renesas portal site as part of an ongoing commitment to supporting confidence, comfort, and dreams. As part of the Eco-Products Initiative, Toward Green Society introduces our work on smart grids and eco-friendly vehicles aimed at the realization of an eco-friendly society. Green Systems and Green Devices present eco-friendly initiatives relating to the design and application of Renesas products. Finally, Green Applications shows examples of applications incorporating eco-friendly ideas.
